Shopify web design Huntingdon: research, store and Shopify SEO, one plan, nothing to pay up front

A model shop by the market or a trader on Hinchingbrooke Business Park gets a Shopify store built in Bury St Edmunds, 35 miles of A14 away, no deposit, from £495 a month over 12 months, the Shopify SEO done as part of it.

A hobby shop we moved off Wix, and why it matters to Huntingdon

A model railway shop and a reef aquarium shop have more in common than either would guess: a hobby with its own vocabulary, customers who know more than most retailers, small things in many versions. Marine Spec is the second kind, a UK reef accessories shop Harry runs from home in Suffolk, known on YouTube as The Spiritual Reefer. We took it off Wix and rebuilt it on Shopify for that hobby: 24 products holding 176 variants where 31 listings had been, 11 collections from the research, each Wix address redirected, alt text on every photo, 4 guides written of 15 planned. Theme and search files were drawn for that shop alone. No sales figures are claimed. A Huntingdon hobby shop would get the same, built around trains.

A Huntingdon Shop page loses OO gauge locomotives to a warehouse

The hobby shop's site has a page called Shop with 600 products behind a search box, and that's the whole structure. Shop is not a phrase anyone types. OO gauge steam locomotive is, along with model railway points and static grass scenery, and because the site has no page for any of them, Google shows the Huntingdon customer a warehouse. Each phrase gets a collection page, with the products that belong in it, advice a hobbyist would respect, and a page for Godmanchester and the villages the shop delivers to. The research comes before the design and you see it: which phrases, monthly volume, who holds page 1. Phrases that can't win aren't built. 7 product types times 4 phrases is 28 searches and 28 pages.

Which gauge to start with? A Huntingdon guide answers before the sale

Every hobby runs on questions, and a beginner asks them of Google before they ask a shop. Which gauge for a small spare room. DCC or analogue for a first layout. Which glue for a plastic kit that won't fog the clear parts. How to lay flexible track on a curve. A buying guide that answers each one plainly, written by people who've been asked the same thing across the counter, ranks for that question and points at the products the answer needs. ChatGPT and Google's AI Mode quote the same guides when someone asks how to start a model railway. Of the 15 guides planned for Marine Spec, 4 exist so far. For a Huntingdon hobby shop the research decides which questions come first.

A collector in Leeds finds the Huntingdon shop's stock in the Shopping tab

Collectors search by model, not by shop, and the first thing they see is the Shopping tab: products, prices, who has it in stock. A Huntingdon hobby shop can sit there beside the warehouses, in the free listings, without paying for a click. It takes a Merchant Center feed straight out of the store, so the stock and price Google shows are the ones behind the counter, and schema on every product page giving price and stock for machines. Both go in as standard; the Shopify SEO keeps the feed matching the shelves. Ask an AI assistant where to buy OO gauge track in the UK and the answer is assembled from that data. Nobody can promise the shop is named. Being readable is what we can do.

Why Shopify for a Huntingdon shop with 600 lines and a Saturday counter

A shop with 600 products and a till needs the website and the counter to agree about stock, and the current site can't manage it. Shopify can. The app carries stock and orders, so a locomotive sold over the counter on Saturday leaves the website before a collector buys it, and if you want the till on the same count, Shopify's own point of sale does that. The checkout handles Shopify Payments, Shop Pay and Apple Pay, and keeps working on the day a new release goes up for pre order. Apps cover the extras, pre orders and gift cards among them, when a Huntingdon shop needs them. The catch: Shopify's monthly plan and its card fees are the shop's own bill, settled with Shopify, not us.

Off WooCommerce without losing the pages that rank in Huntingdon

A WooCommerce shop live since 2018 has earned things: pages that rank, links from forums, customers who know the address. Moving it carelessly throws them away, so we don't. Each product, category and page address on the old site is listed and matched to its Shopify replacement, and the redirects go live at the moment of switching, so a forum link to a points pack still lands on that points pack. Products come across with variants and images, order history and customer accounts too, and the WooCommerce shop stays open while the Shopify one is finished. The hosting bill and the plugin updates stop the same week. Huntingdon shops on Wix, Squarespace, Etsy or a tired Shopify theme get the same list.

Shopify stores for Huntingdon shops selling to the Saturday counter and to collectors the country over

25,428 people live in Huntingdon, a market town that counts Godmanchester, across the river, as part of itself, with the Cromwell Museum in the old grammar school and a station on the East Coast Main Line. A model railway shop near the museum keeps a layout running in the window and a counter busy on Saturdays, but its customers are hobbyists and most live nowhere near the A14. The website is a WooCommerce shop a customer who worked in IT set up in 2018: 600 products, a third marked out of stock, a checkout that stops working whenever a plugin updates. When a collector in Leeds types OO gauge steam locomotive, a warehouse ranks and the shop doesn't. We're about 50 minutes from Huntingdon, in Bury St Edmunds, and we build shops here a store that works the opposite way: a collection for each phrase people search, old addresses redirected so nothing earned is lost, the Shopify SEO done every month, no deposit, from £495 a month.

How many products will a Huntingdon shop list?

The hobby shop needs a collection for OO gauge locomotives, one for track and points, then scenery, paints and glues and model kits, with a page for Godmanchester and the villages where it delivers. 7 product types times 4 phrases is 28 searches and 28 pages built to win them.

  • 1Keyword research comes first, so we know which products and phrases people search for, how often, and who holds those results now.
  • 2We design and build the Shopify store, set the products up properly and build a collection page for every search worth going after.
  • 3Every month after that the Shopify SEO carries on: better collections, buying guides, Shopping feed care and a report on what moved. It is in the price.

Move the sliders to see which plan fits. Variants such as sizes and colours sit inside a product and do not count. The research decides which collection pages get built, so nothing gets made that cannot win.

Monthly report

Short, plain and monthly: what rose, what sold via Google rather than the counter, what was built, what's next.

Futureproofs web design is a pleasure to work with. Luke exceeded my expectations with the new Grooming Gorgeous website and really took the time to understand my business, our brand and what I wanted the website to achieve. He managed to capture everything I had envisioned and bring it all together even better than I had imagined.

Grooming Gorgeous

Could not recommend FutureProofs enough if you’re looking for a web design and SEO team who actually get how sites need to work now, including ranking in AI search, not just Google. We handed over some genuinely messy sites and they sorted them out properly, fast turnaround, no fuss.

Sam D'Arcy

FutureProofs built the new website for my construction business Fowler Construction and I couldn't be happier with it. I'm a builder, not a computer person, and he made the whole thing easy. He took the time to understand the work I actually want to win, wrote all the content for me, and the finished site looks proper high end.

Jake Fowler · Fowler Construction

We engaged Future Proofs to support the build of our new website, and the experience has been consistently positive from the outset. There was a clear effort to understand not just the visual aspect, but how the brand should be represented more broadly. Communication has been straightforward throughout, with updates and changes handled quickly.

Luke was brilliant to work with — really easy to communicate with, took the time to understand our brand, and delivered exactly what we were hoping for. The website looks clean and modern, and the menu design has had loads of great feedback already.

Elliott Jackson · Suffolk Garden Maintenance

Our old site was a right bodge - slow, not great on mobiles, and no one could find the number to ring. Futureproofs gave it a proper overhaul in Webflow, sorted the content, and put clear buttons for services and quotes. We’re getting more of the right enquiries now they tidied up the Google SEO bits too. Straight talk, delivered when they said they would, and did a tidy job.
