BEHIND THE WORK
A small senior team building marketing engines for ambitious brands.
A Wix to Shopify move for a Suffolk reef aquarium accessories maker
Marine Spec sells frag racks, magnetic feeders and pod hotels that Harry designs and 3D prints himself, and FutureProofs moved the shop from Wix to a Shopify store with the Shopify SEO included, built around the reef hobby and the person behind it.
A reef accessories shop run from Suffolk, with a YouTube channel.
Marine Spec is a UK reef aquarium accessories shop that Harry runs from his home in Suffolk. He keeps reef tanks, designs the accessories he wanted and couldn't buy, 3D prints them, and talks about the hobby as The Spiritual Reefer on YouTube. The range runs from frag racks and magnetic feeders to pod hotels, live foods, dry goods and water, with Spiritual Reefer merchandise alongside.
Every order plants 1 tree through Ecologi, and 10 per cent of profits goes to marine conservation and mental health charities. The shop had been on Wix, and it had reached the point where the platform was holding the catalogue back.
Shopify Store Build: A calm, technical theme built around the reef hobby.
Wix to Shopify Move: Every old Wix address mapped to its new page.
Product Data: 31 Wix listings became 24 products with 176 variants.
Shopify SEO: Collections, buying guides and schema planned from research.
The Challenge
31 products on Wix, with colours and sizes listed as separate items.
The Wix store held 31 products, and many were the same accessory listed again for each colour, size or magnet strength, so a customer comparing 2 versions of one feeder opened 2 pages and guessed. Nothing matched the way reef keepers search, there were no proper collections, no schema, and no plan for the old addresses if the shop moved.
Harry also had more to say than a product grid allows: who he is, how the 3D printing works, what the channel covers. The brief was a Shopify store that could carry the hobby as well as the stock, without anything going public before he had signed it off.
What We Did
24 products, 176 variants and 11 collections planned from research.
We built into a Shopify development store, so nothing went public until Harry approved it. The 31 Wix products became 24 Shopify products with 176 variants, because colours, sizes and magnet strengths became options on one product rather than separate listings, and every product photo was given alt text. The keyword research produced 11 collections, among them frag racks, magnetic feeders, pod hotels, live foods, dry goods, water and Spiritual Reefer merchandise.
Pages for Harry, the 3D printing and the channel. Around them sit a Meet Harry page, a custom 3D printing page with a stepped enquiry form for one off parts, and a page for the YouTube videos, so the channel and the shop point at each other.
The Design
A calm technical theme in navy, with one orange from the clownfish.
The theme was designed for this shop and built on Shopify's Online Store 2.0. Reef keeping is precise, so the design is calm and technical: navy throughout, a single orange accent lifted from the clownfish in the logo, and the product photography left to do the talking. Underneath it, every old Wix address was mapped to its new page with a redirect, so no saved link leads to a dead end. Schema was written for the products, the collections, the guides, the videos and Harry himself, with robots.txt, llms.txt and AI sitemaps added so the store reads as clearly to an AI assistant as to Google.
Ongoing Partnership
Buying guides and Shopify SEO that carry on every month.
4 buying guides were written for the build, answering the questions reef keepers ask before they buy, with 15 planned in total, each one linking to the products it recommends. That's the shape of the monthly Shopify SEO on every plan: new collection pages as the research finds them, product page improvements, more guides, technical checks, Google Merchant Center care and a plain English report for Harry to read. The store is in Harry's name, the domain and the customers are his, and we work inside it as staff, which is how every Shopify store we build is set up from the first day.
This project covered a Wix to Shopify move for a UK reef aquarium accessories shop run from Suffolk: 24 products with 176 variants, 11 collections, a theme built around the maker, redirects, schema and buying guides. The method is on our Shopify web design page, and our Shopify pages for Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich show it closer to home.

Our old site was a right bodge - slow, not great on mobiles, and no one could find the number to ring. Futureproofs gave it a proper overhaul in Webflow, sorted the content, and put clear buttons for services and quotes. We’re getting more of the right enquiries now they tidied up the Google SEO bits too. Straight talk, delivered when they said they would, and did a tidy job. Cheers, lads - would recommend.

Futureproofs rebuilt our website from a clunky Wix template into a clean, fast Webflow site that looks great on any device. They launched Needham Market first, then duplicated and tailored it for our new Stowmarket branch. Since launch we’ve had more online enquiries, customers say it’s easier to find what they need, and we’re now naturally ranking on google for services we struggled with before across Suffolk.
