Shopify web design in Braintree for shops that want orders from far beyond the A120

Braintree was a textile town before anything else, and a haberdashery or maker here can sell to the whole country from a Shopify store planned on keyword research, from £495 a month with the Shopify SEO inside it and nothing to pay at the start.

Knitting yarn Braintree gets typed into Google; Shop never does

The haberdashery runs on a Shop page, a basket and a landline. No knitter types Shop. They type aran yarn, DK yarn, cotton fabric by the metre, dressmaking patterns, cross stitch kit and knitting shop Braintree, and if the site has nothing on that, Google sends them to a chain with a warehouse. Each phrase gets a collection page: the right stock, a few lines on what the knitter is really asking, and pages for Witham or Halstead where the research shows the town typed beside a product. The keyword research comes first, and you see the lot, phrase by phrase, with monthly numbers and who holds the results. 8 kinds of stock times 3 phrases is 24 searches, and 24 collections to win them.

Textile heritage, trade counters and makers, the Braintree shops a store suits

Braintree's trade has always been in things you can hold. Courtaulds and Crittall are gone or shrunk, but the habit stayed: makers and workshops off the main roads, trade counters on the Springwood Industrial Estate and along the A120, independents in the town centre serving Bocking and the Notleys. Cafés and small retailers live off the visitors to Freeport Braintree Village. The ones a Shopify store suits are the ones whose stock could leave in a parcel: the haberdasher, the maker, the trade counter whose catalogue is still a PDF, the deli posting hampers in December. A Braintree business that only wants enquiries should read our web design page for Braintree instead, where plans begin at £189 a month.

Yarn filtered by weight, fibre and colour, not a recoloured template

A haberdashery store has to work like the shop: a knitter asks for green DK in a wool blend and expects to see that, not 300 balls in date order. So the theme gets drawn for the range on Shopify's Online Store 2.0: filters for weight, fibre and colour, a metre selector on fabric, colour chips on the product page, an add to cart button that keeps up with the thumb, and none of the app clutter that slows a store, because what apps usually do, we build in. It has to be quick on a phone, since a Braintree customer in Rayne is browsing with a half finished sleeve on her lap. Our Shopify pages for Chelmsford and Sudbury are held to it too.

Collect from the counter on Thursday, delivered to Black Notley by Friday

The knitting group from Bocking wants to collect, the customer in Black Notley wants it posted, and the store has to serve both. Click and collect lets an order placed on a Wednesday evening wait behind the counter in Braintree the next morning, with a text when it's ready. A local delivery zone drawn by postcode gives Great Notley, Cressing and Rayne a hand delivery price at checkout, and everyone else sees Royal Mail rates. The Google Business Profile lists the stock, the hours and the Thursday group, kept right through Christmas. And when the research turns up a town name beside a product, say wool shop Witham, that town gets a page of its own, as it does on our Shopify page for Halstead.

The daughter's Wix site retired without losing a single ranking

If the Wix site ranks for anything, the ranking belongs to the old address, and the move keeps it by giving every one of those addresses a redirect to its Shopify successor, products included, not only the homepage. The 400 lines, their photos and your customer list come across, and Google treats the new store as the same business in a new building. The same work covers WooCommerce, Squarespace or a Shopify theme that has had its day. Etsy can't be redirected, so it keeps running beside the store with the stock counts matched. For a Braintree shop the Wix site keeps trading until the new store is checked and the switch is made, so no knitter arrives at a dead page.

A checkout a knitter in Rayne finishes in 2 taps

Shopify's checkout is why we build on Shopify; a half built one loses more sales than a slow page ever will. Shopify Payments takes card payments, Shop Pay remembers anyone who has shopped on Shopify before, and Apple Pay lets a customer in Rayne pay for 6 balls of yarn with her thumb. Stock and orders live in Shopify's app, so you can check what's left of a colourway from the counter or from home, and a sewing pattern sold as a PDF download has an app that delivers it, the one app a haberdashery needs. The trade off is honest and small: Shopify's own plan and card fees go to Shopify from your account, not through us, because the account carries your name.

Online shops for Braintree makers and independents whose customers live well past Great Notley

Braintree spun silk for Courtaulds and rolled steel for Crittall, and a town that made things for so long keeps a feel for materials. A craft and haberdashery shop in the town centre carries yarn by the ball, fabric by the metre, patterns, embroidery kits and gift boxes, and sells to 2 kinds of customer: the knitting group from Bocking who come in on a Thursday, and people in other counties who found the shop on Instagram and would order weekly if the website let them. It doesn't, quite. It's a Wix site with a Shop page listing 50 of the 400 lines, built by the owner's daughter in 2020 and not touched since. When someone in Great Notley types aran yarn into Google, a national craft chain gets the sale. We're in Bury St Edmunds, roughly 50 minutes up the A131, and we build Braintree stores around the searches: a page for each phrase, the Shopify SEO inside the plan, from £495 a month, nothing at the start.

How many products will a Braintree shop list?

A Braintree haberdashery needs a collection for knitting yarn, one for sewing patterns, one for fabric by the metre, one for embroidery kits and one for craft gift boxes, plus a page for each nearby town the research supports. 8 kinds of stock times 3 phrases is 24 collections with a real chance.

  • 1Keyword research comes first, so we know which products and phrases people search for, how often, and who holds those results now.
  • 2We design and build the Shopify store, set the products up properly and build a collection page for every search worth going after.
  • 3Every month after that the Shopify SEO carries on: better collections, buying guides, Shopping feed care and a report on what moved. It is in the price.

Move the sliders to see which plan fits. Variants such as sizes and colours sit inside a product and do not count. The research decides which collection pages get built, so nothing gets made that cannot win.

About 2 weeks to launch

With the stock list, photos and words in, a Braintree store opens roughly a fortnight after the build starts.

Futureproofs web design is a pleasure to work with. Luke exceeded my expectations with the new Grooming Gorgeous website and really took the time to understand my business, our brand and what I wanted the website to achieve. He managed to capture everything I had envisioned and bring it all together even better than I had imagined.

Grooming Gorgeous

Could not recommend FutureProofs enough if you’re looking for a web design and SEO team who actually get how sites need to work now, including ranking in AI search, not just Google. We handed over some genuinely messy sites and they sorted them out properly, fast turnaround, no fuss.

Sam D'Arcy

FutureProofs built the new website for my construction business Fowler Construction and I couldn't be happier with it. I'm a builder, not a computer person, and he made the whole thing easy. He took the time to understand the work I actually want to win, wrote all the content for me, and the finished site looks proper high end.

Jake Fowler · Fowler Construction

We engaged Future Proofs to support the build of our new website, and the experience has been consistently positive from the outset. There was a clear effort to understand not just the visual aspect, but how the brand should be represented more broadly. Communication has been straightforward throughout, with updates and changes handled quickly.

Jonathan · Latent Intelligence

We worked with FutureProofs to launch our website for Suffolk Clearances, and the results have exceeded expectations. He also set up our Google Business Profile correctly from day one, and within just one month we are already ranking on the first page of Google for key local search terms.

We worked with Futureproofs on our coffee shop website and menu design and couldn’t be happier with the result. Luke was brilliant to work with — really easy to communicate with, took the time to understand our brand, and delivered exactly what we were hoping for. The website looks clean and modern, and the menu design has had loads of great feedback already.

Elliott Jackson · Suffolk Garden Maintenance

Our old site was a right bodge - slow, not great on mobiles, and no one could find the number to ring. Futureproofs gave it a proper overhaul in Webflow, sorted the content, and put clear buttons for services and quotes. We’re getting more of the right enquiries now they tidied up the Google SEO bits too. Straight talk, delivered when they said they would, and did a tidy job.
