The Barn Butchery

Founded in 2020 by seasoned butcher Gareth Doherty, The Barn Butchery & Farm Shop is a multi-award‑winning independent butchery in Denham, just outside Bury St Edmunds. With over 30 years of industry experience, Gareth built the business on a commitment to sustainable, locally sourced meat from Suffolk and surrounding counties, offering everything from dry-aged beef to bespoke venison butchery and cookery courses. Futureproofs worked closely with them to create a digital presence worthy of their craft - blending heritage, quality, and locality through a modern Webflow website.

What We Did

Webflow Website Design & Development

Built a fully custom, SEO-optimised Webflow website that tells The Barn’s story while serving as a functional storefront. Features include: intuitive navigation, fast load times, responsive layout, structured product pages, and service/course booking prompts.

Digital Storytelling & SEO

Crafted compelling copy and structured content to highlight local sourcing, dry-aged butchery, and Gareth’s expertise. Implemented local SEO strategies to improve visibility in searches around Bury St Edmunds and Suffolk.

Website’s Organic Impression

Our goal was to build a site that emphasises The Barn’s reputation for quality, local provenance, and expert butchery. With clean, semantic Webflow build and local SEO best practices, the site targets keywords like Suffolk butchery, dry-aged beef Bury St Edmunds, and venison butcher courses. We spotlight Gareth’s background, detail the shop’s premium product range—from dry aged meats to seasonal fruit, pies, and artisan provision and showcase customer testimonials that reinforce trust and quality. The result is an inviting, SEO optimised presence that attracts both shoppers and those seeking culinary education.

Confluence of Form and Function:
The Barn’s aesthetic - earthy, authentic, and refined influenced the visual direction. We paired warm golden tones and dark backdrops with traditional typography and high quality photography of the meats and shop interior. Functionally, the site is fast, responsive, and navigable, with sections for product offerings, deer-stalking services, butchery courses, and contact. The design ensures users can quickly get practical info and appreciate the story behind the produce.

Crafting the Digital Narrative:
We crafted copy and visuals that celebrate Gareth’s journey - from apprentice butcher to award winning local artisan with over three decades of experience. The narrative emphasises The Barn’s community connection - how they support local farmers and offer educational butchery workshops while maintaining exceptional standards. Testimonials from customers praising the quality and service were woven in to build social proof. As courses and deer-stalking services are core offerings, these are clearly explained, reinforcing The Barn as more than a shop = it’s a centre for craft, education, and local quality.

Transitioning Brick‑and‑Mortar to Digital:
Translating the tangible quality and atmosphere of The Barn into a website meant presenting products with clarity and heritage. The site features detailed product breakdowns—steaks, dry-aged beef, handmade sausages, and seasonal offerings—and dedicated pages for deer stalking services and butchery courses. We mirrored the shop’s warm, welcoming tone online, ensuring customers feel comfort and trust before even walking through the door. A consistent visual and narrative setup meant that the website reflects the same high standards as the physical counter.

Through a combination of thoughtful design, storytelling, and local SEO, Futureproofs helped The Barn Butchery establish a strong digital presence that reflects its quality-first ethos and deep community roots. The site now serves as a trusted online hub for both discerning shoppers and food enthusiasts seeking immersive culinary experiences.
